About Michelle

Hello everyone,

As you may have gathered, my name is Michelle.  I’m a Final Cut Pro editor living in what could be described as the Greater NYC region.  That’s just a fancy way of saying that I live in New Jersey, of course.

My primary strengths are using Final Cut Pro 7 and DVD Studio Pro.  I’ve been using Final Cut Pro for 8 years and am a Level 1 Apple Certified Professional in Final Cut Pro 6.  I’m currently expanding my skill set to include Avid Media Composer, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, and Apple Motion.  I’m also earning my Master of Arts degree in Media Studies from The New School, in Manhattan.  I’ll also be earning a Masters Certificate in Media Management in my time there.

I’ve set up this blog to write about editing.  It’s a rapidly changing field.  Editors recently got comfortable with digital video editing.  Now, everything is being upset again by the advent of web video.  I can’t speak for the industry as a whole, but I’ll be writing about what’s it’s like to be an editor in this new field.  I’ve been editing school and independent projects for about seven years now.  Most recently, I’ve been the editor for the web series Issues.  I’ve had fun with editing – it’s been the thing that keeps me going when the rest of the world (like my day job) is less than perfect.

The thing is, I like editing so much that the occasional project just doesn’t do it for me.  So in order to solve problems like my job sucking, I’m springing to make editing my full-time career.  Yes, there’s an enormous difference between a job and a career.  I’ll be making a post about it soon.  So what can you expect here, and from me?  This blog will be about editing, how to do it well, how to improve your skills, why I love it, and how the search is going.

If you’d like to know more about me in particular, and how my own projects are going, feel free to visit the rest of my web site.
